KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAWelcome to Myrifield’s website. Myrifield Institute for Cognition and the Arts promotes collaboration among researchers engaged in exploring the role of the arts in the development of human cognition. We invite inquiries from small groups of scholars and artists pursuing research in human cognition and the fine and performing arts who seek a secluded setting for discussion of issues, problems, and future directions. Individual researchers may also apply for short study stays. We maintain a small research library of materials in cognitive sciences and the arts available to visiting scholars.

  1. Hello,
I write to you with the interest in research collaboration.
I have been increasing inspired towards conversation with researchers in other fields (Phenomenologists, those working in Cognitive Sciences, Neurophenomenology, in particular.) After years of personal research and study informing my own work, I have been especially intrigued and inspired by the words of Evan Thompson, Maxine Sheets-Johnstone, Francisco Varela and Peter Levine.
I teach somatic movement classes regularly, as well as have a rigorous personal practice of moving with attention to internal sensation, and a sitting meditation practice, daily.
Additionally, I have an undergraduate background in Cultural Anthropology and training in performance and movement/dance.
(My performance/artwork may be seen here: erinchristinebell.com. My somatic movement work may be found here: theinvisibleschool.wordpress.com)

Specifically, I am seeking conversation with those interested in developing research work in collaboration. My base interest is in expanding understand of Mind, Consciousness, intuition and the differences/similarities arising from inhibited movement practice (such as sitting meditation – for the body continues to move even in this relative stillness) with free movement practice based in moving from sensations (uninhibited, or less inhibited, movement practice.)

If you are able to offer any information about any with an interest in developing a research project together, I am deeply appreciative.
    With great thanks, kindly,
    Erin Christine Bell
